What Is Munjya As Per Hindu Mythology?

Munjya comes in the category of brahmarakshas , and there are saying by our ancestors that if the boy who is from the Brahman family dies at an early age with an unfulfilled task which can be a certain ambition, desire, or fantasy. If unfulfilled he never leaves the mortal realm and dwells around the banyan or peepal tree. As we all know the mentality of teenagers is stubborn.

It is their process of life that pivots them towards the path of maturity which helps them to evolved enough to make correct and accurate decision in life. But if a pure-blooded bramhan boy misses the path of maturity and dies at an early age due to uncertain reasons, with a baggage full of pending desires. He walks on a dark path becoming a  brahmarakshas who usually dwells around the banyan or peepal tree by the name called “Muniya” Sound’s a bit incomplete right? Here the full story of how a young boy named Gotya turned in to a munjya.

The story turns around in the year 1952 when a young brahmin boy named gotya fall’s in love with a girl called Munni. But unfortunately, munni’s marriage is already been fixed with another man. Flair-up with this information stubborn Gotya is ready to cross any limits in attaining munni. By poising his fiancé which is fails, but the cards turn when her mother gets to know about the same. And she takes all strict measures to make sure Gotya is aware that he can never unite with Munni ever.

But stubborn Gotya doesn’t back off by walking the dark path and taking his sister to Chetukwadi where he performs black magic underneath the peepal tree so he can unite with Munni forever. But the ritual comes with a cost as he has to sacrifice a living soul i.e. where he attempts to sacrifice his sister.

Although she somehow saves herself from this horror. However the entire situation turns upside down. When Gotya meets his fate i.e. “death” by getting his head hit to the tree trunk turning himself into a munjya. Although the movie has a sad start the entire journey of Munjya is a combination of comedy and jump scared.

Residing at the beautiful idyllic coast of Konkan the story of Munjya continues to proceed with a restless spirit of Gotya. Attaching himself to his descendant “Bittu” the protagonist of the movie and uses him as a pawn, so he can fulfill his fantasies.

This unconventional situation creates a riot of slight jump thrill but blends well with relatable comedy. All and all it is a perfect weekend movie for the audience and a new and fresh horror comedy treat by Maddock Films. Perfect cast, thrilling yet soothing music, with a smart screenplay & a surprising treat from both the writers, producers & director.
